Scenic Drive to Soraypampa
Journey through the stunning Peruvian countryside as dawn breaks over the Andes. We’ll pass through traditional villages and witness the landscape transform from urban to rural, with spectacular mountain views emerging as we climb in altitude. The drive covers approximately 120 km to reach Soraypampa at 3,850 meters above sea level.

Enjoy a hearty breakfast at the trailhead to fuel up for the trek ahead. This is also the starting point for the famous Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu. You’ll have time to use facilities, prepare your gear, and acclimatize to the altitude while taking in views of the majestic Salkantay and Humantay peaks.

Trek to Humantay Lake
Begin the scenic hike to Humantay Lake. The trail starts relatively flat for the first 20 minutes before ascending steadily for the remaining journey. You’ll gain approximately 470 meters in elevation, passing through diverse Andean landscapes with breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks. Our guides maintain a comfortable pace with regular breaks for photos and rest.

Arrive at the stunning turquoise waters of Humantay Lake (4,200m). You’ll have ample time to take photos, make an offering to the Apus (mountain spirits) if desired, and simply absorb the incredible beauty of this sacred site. The contrast between the vibrant blue-green water and the surrounding glaciers creates an unforgettable panorama.

Begin the descent back to the trailhead. The return journey is considerably easier than the ascent, offering different perspectives of the stunning landscape. Your guide will point out local flora and fauna, and share stories about the region’s history and culture.

Board our comfortable van for the return trip to Cusco. The afternoon drive offers beautiful golden hour lighting over the Andean landscape. We’ll drop you off at your hotel, arriving around 5:00 PM, giving you time to rest or explore Cusco’s evening atmosphere.
